‘Supergirl’: Will The CW Create Female Empowerment Night With New Addition?

With transplant Supergirl, which drew nearly 10 million viewers on sister network CBS in Season 1, the CW is getting a potential key scheduling piece that can anchor a night. With its strong female empowerment message, Supergirl — whose CBS promo was cut to Rachel Platten’s girl-power anthem “Fight Song” — could help build a night around that theme. Of the existing CW series, Jane the Virgin appears the most compatible, as it too has a strong empowerment message and a strong and independent 20-something woman at its center. (Both shows have humor in them too.) Of the new CW series, I hear romantic tale No Tomorrow would be a good fit.

Another possible route would be to use Supergirl to supercharge a superhero franchise, like Legends of Tomorrow. But the opportunity to build a night with a strong female empowerment theme should not be ignored.
