NFL Renews Alliance With YouTube As It Expands Video Offerings

A month after the NFL sold Thursday Night Football streaming rights to Twitter, the league has agreed to expand the content on its YouTube channel — part of a multi-year renewal announced today.

In addition to its current game previews, in-game highlights, post-game recaps and other content, the NFL will provide three of what it calls “the most exciting games” ever for each of its 32 clubs. They will be up before the 2016 season begins.

The league will also make it possible for fans to use Google Search to find video highlights and other content while a game is still in progress. The material. including kickoff time and broadcast information, will appear in a box at the top of the search results when someone looks up a team by name.

“This expansion of our partnership will make it easier than ever for the millions of highly engaged avid and casual fans on YouTube and Google to discover and access an even greater variety of some of the most valuable content in the sports and entertainment business,” says Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s SVP  for Media Strategy, Business Development, & Sales. “Our fans continue to demonstrate an insatiable appetite for NFL digital video content online.”

NFL content has attracted more than 900 million views on YouTube since the alliance began in 2015, it says.
