Saban Films Closing In On North American Deal For John Michael McDonagh’s ‘War On Everyone’ – Cannes

Saban Films is closing in on a deal for North American distribution rights to John Michael McDonagh’s War on Everyone. The action comedy had its world premiere in Berlin and stars Michael Peña (The Martian), Alexander Skarsgård (The Legend of Tarzan), Theo James (Divergent) and Tessa Thompson (Creed).

War on Everyone follows two corrupt cops in New Mexico who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate someone who is more dangerous than they are.

Said McDonagh, “In an era of increasingly heightened tensions across America between law enforcement agencies and the communities they vow to serve and protect, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Saban Films has the guts to take on U.S. distribution of War on Everyone, a film that is totally irresponsible, deliberately inflammatory and completely lacking in any redeeming social or moral value whatsoever. Venceremos!”

The film is produced by Chris Clark, Flora Fernandez Marengo and co-produced by Elizabeth Eves for Reprisal Films. Phil Hunt and Compton Ross also produce for Head Gear Films, with the support of the BFI Film Fund. Bill Bromiley and Ness Saban negotiated the deal on behalf of Saban Films. UTA Independent Film Group, CAA and Bankside Films represented the producers. Bankside Films is handling international sales at Cannes. McDonagh is repped by UTA and UK-based Independent.

Additional territorial deals on the film include Germany (Constantin Film), Switzerland (Praesens), Russia (Arthouse) and Baltic States (Hea Films). The film previously was sold to Sony Pictures Worldwide for multiple territories, Icon Film Distribution has the UK and Republic of Ireland and Australia/New Zealand to Icon Film Distribution.
