‘New Girl’ Ratings & Other Fox Comedies Steady In Finales; ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ Down

FOX

It was a steady night of comedy farewells on Fox on Tuesday as New Girl ended its fifth season with a wedding and Grandfathered (0.6/2) and The Grinder (0.6/2) went out with a bit of whimper. With NBA and NHL playoff action elsewhere on the dial last night, The networks’ John Stamos-led show was down a tenth from last week while its Rob Lowe-led series was up a tenth from its May 3 offering. Fox hasn’t renewed either newbie yet, while the Zooey Deschanel show was picked up for a sixth season last month.

Dipping 9% from its Season 4 finale of May 5, 2015, last night’s 9 PM (1.0/4) New Girl was up a tenth from last week among adults 18-49. The 8 PM (1.1/4) airing was also up a tenth from its May 3 show.

There were no other finales on the Big 4 last night, which saw NBC and CBS tie for the demo top spot overall with a 1.6/4 rating and the latter take the viewership win with 12.01 million watching. There was a a debut of sorts, however, with Person Of Interest (1.1/4) making its second Tuesday appearance after last week’s Season 5 premiere. As CBS burns through the final 13 episodes of the series, last night’s show slipped 8% from its May 3 opener but was up 10% from its May 9 show. The earlier part of CBS’ night saw NCIS (2.0/8) up 5% while NCIS: New Orleans (1.6/6) took an 11% whack from its May 3 demo result. The former procedural was the night’s highest-rated and most-watched show (15.66 million).

A live The Voice (1.8/7) was up 12% for NBC last night, while Chicago Med (1.6/6) rose 7% and Chicago Fire (1.6/6) was even with last week.

Staying even wasn’t the case for ABC’s Fresh Off The Boat (0.9/4): Heading south for a second week in a row, the comedy took an 18% drop from its May 3 episode to what is a season low in early numbers. Fellow comedy The Real O’Neals (0.9/3) was even with last week as was Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (0.9/3) in the Disney-owed net’s night of 0.9s. A preview BattleBots: The Gears Awaken special (0.6/2) came in the same as last week’s Beyond The Tank.

The CW’s The Flash (1.3/5) raced ahead of both Fox and ABC in its slot and was even with its May 3 show. Lead-out Containment (0.5/2) was also even in the demo.
