Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Paterson’ Drives Sales Ahead Of Competition Screening – Cannes

EXCLUSIVE: Jim Jarmusch’s Cannes competition entry Paterson has locked a series of deals in key markets via K5 International. The pic, which Amazon is releasing domestically, stars Star Wars: The Force AwakensAdam Driver.

Driver plays the title role, a bus driver in the city of Paterson, NJ. Each day he drives his route, observing the city as it drifts across his windshield and overhearing fragments of conversations swirling around him. The rest of his regimented daily routine is writing poetry in a notebook; walking his dog; stopping in a bar to drink exactly one beer; and going home to his wife, Laura (Golshifteh Farahani). By contrast, Laura’s world is ever-changing. New dreams come to her almost daily. The film quietly observes the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.

Sales have now been secured in Germany/Austria (Weltkino), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Korea (Green Narae), Portugal (Leopardo), Greece (Ama), Poland (Gutek) and Czech Republic/Slovakia (Aero). Jean Labadie’s Le Pacte has France. K5 says it’s in ongoing negotiations with buyers in other key territories.

The film screens here on Monday. It’s one of two that Jarmusch is bringing to the Croisette; his Iggy Pop documentary Gimme Danger is a Midnight Screening.

K5 is also in Cannes with The Seagull starring Annette Bening and Saoirse Ronan, and Mine with Armie Hammer. The company recently started pre-production on Clive Owen-Amanda Seyfried sci-fi thriller Anon, directed by Andrew Niccol.
