‘Inferno’ Teaser Trailer: It’s Up To Tom Hanks To Save Humanity

Sony Pictures

Here’s our first look at Inferno, director Ron Howard third adaptation of a Dan Brown mega-bestseller. Tom Hanks returns as Robert Langdon, mild-mannered symbologist-turned-unlikely hero; this time, nothing short of man’s future on Earth is at stake.

Seems someone has prepped the release of cataclysmic virus, and the clues are all tied to Dante — who, Langdon reminds us, “define our modern definition of hell 700 years ago.” But why Dante? Why now this map of hell? And why now? These are questions Langdon faces after he wakes up in a hospital with amnesia. Partnered with a doctor (Felicity Jones), he traipses across Europe on a travelogue/mystery-solving quest to connect the dots. And, ideally,  save us all.

Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Ben Foster and Sidse Babett Knudsen co-star in Inferno, which David Koepp adapted from Brown’s 2013 novel. The previous two films in the Langdon series — 2006’s The Da Vinci Code and 2009’s Angels & Demons — combined for $1.125 billion worldwide (Howard skipped Brown’s 2009 book The Lost Symbol), so Sony Pictures has high hopes for this one, which opens October 28.

So dust off that European lit book you couldn’t sell back after college, take a look at this minute-plus teaser and tell us what you think.
