Vertical Entertainment Grabs Atlas Independent’s Cartel Thriller ‘The Hollow Point’

EXCLUSIVE: Vertical Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Atlas Entertainment affiliate Atlas Independent’s thriller The Hollow Point. From director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, the harrowing look at the complex and dangerous intersection of crime and the law amid the war on drugs is set for release later in 2016. Highland Film Group is handling international sales for the film this month at Cannes.

Set in a small town at the U.S.- Mexico border, the story follows a new sheriff plunged into the thick of the ongoing conflict over the drug trade as he investigates a cartel deal that goes horribly wrong. Uncovering a gritty underworld of powerful criminals, he comes face to face with the terrible results when those who enforce the law become morally conflicted. Patrick Wilson, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Jim Belushi, and Lynn Collins star.

The Hollow Point immediately stood out for us with such an impressive cast and we are extremely excited to begin our partnership with Atlas Independent on this film”, said Vertical Entertainment co-president Rich Goldberg in a statement. “Director Gonzalo López-Gallego has raised the standard for crime thrillers.”

Filmed in and around Salt Lake City, Lopez-Gallego directs from a script by Nils Lyew. The Hollow Point was produced by William Green, Aaron Ginsburg and Andy Horwitz for Atlas Independent, with Mica Entertainment financing. The acquisition deal was negotiated by CAA on behalf of the filmmakers, Atlas and Vertical, Vertical’s co-president Rich Goldberg and VP of Acquisitions and Marketing Peter Jarowey.
