Hulu Orders Prehistoric Drama Pilot ‘Dawn’ From Hank Steinberg & Ken Nolan

Hulu is going back in time to prehistoric Earth with a pilot order to Dawn, a drama created and executive produceRobert Strombergd by Without a Trace creator Hank Steinberg and Black Hawk Down writer Ken Nolan. Maleficent helmer Robert Stromberg is set to direct the pilot for the project, which is assembling an international cast, with Fola Evans-Akingbola (Game of Thrones), Temuera Morrison, Carl Shaaban, and Matthew Hopkinson in final negotiations to star.

Dawn is a co-production between MGM TV and Hulu, with MGM, which is behind the hit History period drama series Vikings, serving as the lead studio. Production on the pilot is slated to begin May 9 in Ireland where Vikings is also shot.

akingbolaTemueraSet on an epic scale, Dawn follows a tribe of Neanderthals as they struggle to survive and hold on to their way of life after coming into contact with a family of Homo Sapiens. At the intersection of evolution and genocide, Dawn asks the fundamental question, what does it mean to be human?

Akingbola will play Pakalan, Morrison will play Wikkanak, Shaaban will play Buzur, and Hopkinson will play Kamak.

Steinberg recently co-created the TNT drama series The Last Ship. Stromberg is a two-time Oscar winning production designer for Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. Nolan has two notable features starting production next month, Transformers 5, which he co-wrote with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway for director Michael Bay, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Paramount;  and No Exit, starring Josh Brolin and Miles Tellar, for director Joe Kosinski, producer di Bonaventura and Molly Smith’s Black Label Media.
