EXCLUSIVE: Under a deal with Small World IFT, Minute To Win It maker Smart Dog Media is developing interactive primetime stunt-battle format, Super Combat Teams, for the U.S. market. Originally a Chinese format, it’s handled internationally by Los Angeles- and London-based Small World which recently acquired rights outside Germany and China (see trailer below).

China’s Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation first produced the series for Jiangsu Satellite Channel, gaining over 100M viewers and 200M second-screen players across the first season. It was recently named Best General Entertainment Program at the Asian Television Awards.

Small World’s Tim Crescenti calls Super Combat TeamsFear Factor meets Minute To Win It on acid.” The premise sees a mix of world champions, long-time rivals and small town novices with super skills who compete in challenges and stunts to prove themselves the best. Each episode features five challenges, such as ‘Quantum Leap of Parkour,’ ‘Fly Over Cars’, ‘Blind Arrow Snatch’ or ‘BMX Wheels of Terror’.

As part of a growing trend, the show also makes the at-home audience part of the process with viewers guessing the result of each challenge in real time via an interactive app. Cash prizes go to those that predict the correct winners. In China, the average number of audience members participating reached 15M per episode.
