Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys Video: ‘Downton Abbey’ Cast & Director Talk Movie Status, Alternative Storylines & More

Downton Abbey Deadline's The Contenders Emmys

After six seasons, Downtown Abbey — Julian Fellows’ period British drama that became an American pop culture phenomenon — closed its doors forever… or at least for now.

During Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys panel, co-stars Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore), Allen Leech (Tom Branson) and Joanne Froggatt (Anna) gave an update on the rumored Downton Abbey followup movie, and what Fellowes had originally envisioned for their and other characters on the show (Matthew Crawley ending up with Sybil?!)

Michael Engler — the only American helmer to work on the show — talked about directing the finale, the things in it that were tweaked from Fellowes’ original script and the choices of final line and frame.

Watch highlights from my conversation with Nicol, Leech, Froggatt and Engler above.
