Kelly Ripa Says She Will Be Back At Work Tuesday, Thanks ‘Live’ Staff

Kelly Ripa tonight promised to be back to work on Tuesday. Ripa went MIA from Live with Kelly and Michael after learning Tuesday that her co-host Michael Strahan would be leaving the show in September to join Good Morning America full time.

“I wanted to thank you all for giving me the time to process this new information,” Ripa said in an email to Live staff late Friday, which has been obtained by Deadline. “Your kindness, support, and love has overwhelmed me. We are a family and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday morning,” she added.

Ripa trended on Twitter Wednesday after she was a no-show for the broadcast; sources said she was miffed at the company’s handling of the news. She was informed of the plans after she and Strahan finished Tuesday’s Live broadcast and just minutes before the media began publishing its reports. Her absence Wednesday fueled the perception that Ripa had been blindsided by the development, though Strahan had been contributing to GMA twice a week for about two years. More media eyebrow-raising followed when Ripa failed to issue any congratulatory statement to Strahan.

In going MIA from their syndicated daytime talker the morning after Strahan’s news, Ripa stole the spotlight from her co-host. That morning, Strahan opened Live awkwardly with “I’ve been in the news lately,” directed at fill-in co-host Ana Gasteyer — but the SNL alum’s presence in Ripa’s chair was what made that day’s headlines.

Snatching opportunity, ABC announced Ripa would be off the rest of this week and Dancing With the Stars co-host Erin Andrews would guest-host as a fill-in. On Monday’s show, Strahan will be joined by Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell, whose show airs on Freeform — which, like ABC, is owned by Disney.
