‘Containment’ Ratings OK In Debut, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Finale Down From 2015

The CW

Aside from the debut of Containment (0.6/2), it was a pretty drab night on the Big 4 and the CW as they faced New York primary wins for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton that were all over cable news, two NBA playoffs games, and AMC’s move into Tuesday nights with The Night Manager. Still, with declines all over the schedule, the deadly virus series from Julie Plec and David Nutter had a pretty OK start.

Coming off the return of The Flash (1.1/4), which was down 15% from its last original March 29 to match a season low among adults 18-49, Containment was up 20% over iZombie’s Season 2 finale in the slot last week. While down 25% in the demo from iZombie’s series premiere of March 17 last year and declining 14% from the Season 2 opener, Containment hauled in the best overall viewership for any CW show in the slot this season with 1.72 million watching.

As one series starts its midseason run, another ends its latest cycle as Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.9/3) wrapped Season 3 last night. Flat with last week’s show, the cop comedy dropped 18% among the 18-49s from its Season 2 ender of May 17, 2015, a Sunday. A double dose of New Girl (0.8/3) on Fox was down 27% from its single show of April 12, and The Grinder (0.6/2) was even with last week.

Even though The Voice (1.8/7) fell 22% from last week’s two-hour episode, it still was tied with NCIS (1.8.7) for the night’s highest-rated show. With Chicago Med (1.6/5) and Chicago Fire (1.7/6) up 7% and 13%, respectively, over their last originals April 5, NBC won the night in the demo with a 1.7/6 rating.

In second place among the 18-49s with a 1.5/5 rating, CBS was tops in total viewership with 10.79 million. NCIS was down 10% in the demo from its last original April 5 to hit a season low in early numbers. Lead-out NCIS: New Orleans (1.6/5) slipped a tenth, and Limitless (1.1/4) was even as both were even with their last originals April 5.

For ABC, The Real O’Neals (0.8/3), which had a Fresh Off The Boat encore lead-in, fell 20% among adults 18-49 from its last original of April 5 – which had a FOTB original as a lead-in. Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (0.9/3) was down a tenth from last week, and Beyond The Tank (0.5/2) was even with its April 12 episode.
