Daisy Ridley Reteaming With J.J. Abrams For ‘Kolma’

The star and director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens are joining forces again. Daisy Ridley, who played heroine Rey in last year’s top-grossing film, is in talks to star in Kolma, a fantasy thriller that J.J. Abrams is producing for Paramount Pictures. Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) is on to direct and will do a pass on the script before it gets up and running. The project has been at Paramount for at least a decade.

In the vein of Truly Madly Deeply, the film is based on the 13-year-old Israeli telepic All I’ve Got. Kolma centers on a young woman who is in a car crash that kills her boyfriend. When she dies decades later, she is given the choice of returning to the day of the accident to live her life again or being reunited with her love.

Ram Bergman, who is producing the next Star Wars film from director Rian Johnson, brought the Kolma project to Paramount about a decade ago and David Lonner helped him set it up. Sherryl Clark got involved because she was running Bad Robot’s movie division.  Abrams apparently loved the project and wanted to produce. They hired Megan Holley (Sunshine Cleaning) to write a script.

Hence, producing the project will be Abrams, Bergman, Lonner and Clark.
