‘The Pistol Shrimps’ Tribeca Trailer: These Women Are Ballers On And Off The Court

Tribeca Film Festival

EXCLUSIVE: Warning to haters from Pistol Shrimp baller Aubrey Plaza, just in time for the NBA Playoffs: “You’re either with us or you’re against us — and God help you if you’re against us because we will dunk on your ass so hard!” Here’s a first look at The Pistol Shrimps, a docu-take on the basketball collective made up of actresses, comics and attitude. Shocked — shocked! — to learn that there were no women’s leagues in Los Angeles, they formed their own, and a hard-fouling, trash-spewing semi-juggernaut was born.

Parks and Rec alumna Plaza is joined on the floor and in the film by such other hoops non-legends as model Melissa Stetten and actress Maria Blasucci. I Am Chris Farley director Brent Hodge’s pic, which premieres Thursday at Tribeca, follows the Shrimps’ 2015 season as they take on such fearsome rivals as the Kimmy Dribblers and LA Nail Clippers for hardwood supremacy.

Oscar-nommed documentarian Morgan Spurlock, who teamed with Hodge on A Brony Tale, which bowed at Tribeca in 2014, is the exec producer of the film through his Warrior Poets company. As the announcers insist: “They’re spirited, positive and ready for action!” “Sounds like Pistol Shrimps basketball to me!”

No one with or without a basketball Jones wants to be posterized by a Pistol Shrimp, but here’s the poster for the movie anyway:
