‘Blue Bloods’ Ratings Top Friday, ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ Returns Down, ‘Vampire Diaries’ Up

There was no NCAA Tournament on CBS last night, though the Golden State Warriors suffered a rare and close loss at home to the Boston Celtics on cable, but the House of Moonves still scored. Though down 31% among adults 18-49 from last week when the NCAA Tourney was on, CBS drew a 1.1/4 rating and 8.16 million total viewers to win Friday night.

A key player in that victory was Blue Bloods (1.2/4), which was the top rated and, with 10.26 million tuning in, the most watched show of the night. Friday’s “Town Without Pity” episode of the Tom Selleck-led NYPD family drama remained even with its last original of March 11 in the demo but saw a small 4% bump in total viewers.

With usual top demo dog ABC almost entirely in repeats, CBS’ Friday night was a little bit “it’s so easy,” to paraphrase one of the tunes of the semi-reunited Guns’n’Roses who played L.A.’s Troubadour last night. The Amazing Race (1.1/5) was up 10% in the demo from its last original of a couple of weeks ago while lead-out Hawaii Five-O (1.1/4) was even. Viewershipwise, TAR saw an 8% increase from its March 11 episode for its best audience result since its February 12 season opener.

hell's kitchen april 1Over on Fox, there was an exit of sorts of a Sleepy Hollow (0.7/3) regular as the fantasy procedural stayed even with its March 25 show. Back on Fridays now that Second Chance has exited the schedule and Empire has returned to Wednesdays, Hell’s Kitchen (0.8/3) was up 60% from what Fox got in the 9 PM slot last week but down 33% from what the Gordon Ramsay-run series cooked up for its March 23 airing, which was a Wednesday. Friday-to-Friday comparisons, HK dropped 38% from its last run in the slot on January 22 when it had a strong MasterChef Junior as a lead-in

The CW saw some better ratings traction with the return of The Vampire Diaries (0.5/2) and The Originals. Both back for the first time since March 4, the former rose 25% among the 18-49s while the latter was even with its last original. For TVD, Friday’s viewership of 1.17 million was the best it has done since January 29.

Coming off an encore of Caught On Camera With Nick Cannon (0.7/3), which was even with last week’s original, Grimm (0.9/3) was also even with its March 25 show. Dateline (0.9/3) ended NBC’s night with a 10% decline from last week while rival news mag 20/20 (1.0/4) was up 11% in the demo – welcome to the jungle.
