‘Sesame Street’ Docu ‘Street Gang’ Coming From ‘Sunshine Superman’ Director Marah Strauch

Street_gangEXCLUSIVE: Macrocosm Entertainment and Citizen Skull Productions have announced the start of production on the documentary Street Gang, based on the best selling nonfiction book Street Gang – The Complete History of Sesame Street by writer Michael Davis. Like the book, the film will track the beloved children’s program through the decades, drawing from the observations and experiences of the people who were there.

Debuting in 1969, Sesame Street was a groundbreaking experiment in children’s programming that sought to use the “addictive qualities of television” to educate instead of simply entertain young viewers. The show has been consistently on air since then, running on PBS from 1970-2016, switching to HBO in 2016.

Sunshine Superman director Marah Strauch has been tapped to helm Street Gang, with Trevor Crafts, Mark Myers, Matt Daley and Heather Kenyon. “Sesame Street set out to educate a nation of children. In the process it changed the world,” said Crafts. “Our film honors that legacy and examines why the show is as relevant today as it was in 1969.”

Strauch is repped by CSP Management. Street Gang is slated for release in 2017.
