Bernie Sanders Is Unpaid Consultant On Low-Wage Labor Issues For ‘Superstore’, Justin Spitzer Says On April 1
The creators of NBC’s freshman series Superstore did not set out to write a show about low-wage labor and corporate America, “but somehow it just ended out coming to the forefront,” showrunner Justin Spitzer said today during a panel of Universal TV showrunners. A number of people have responded to the show as a social commentary, he said, which surprised him.
“It is true you’ve hired Bernie Sanders as a writer?” wondered Masters of None showrunner Alan Yang, sitting to Spitzer’s right. “Sanders is an unpaid consultant for Season 2,” Spitzer announced without mentioning today’s date.
They were joined by Jessica Goldberg of Hulu’s The Path, Jack Orman, EP of NBC’s Shades of Blue.
