‘Today’ Scores First Weekly Ratings Sweep Since 2012

NBC News

NBC’s Today has marked its first non-Olympics week in which it ranked No. 1 both total viewers and the key news demo since June 2012.

For the week of March 21, which included breaking news of the Brussels terrorist attacks, Today clocked 4.72M viewers and 1.8M viewers in the 25-54 news demo. The program edged past ABC’s Good Morning America, which had 4.67M viewers and 1.6M news demo viewers. CBS This Morning logged 3.59M viewers and 1.1M news demo viewers.

This is the first total-viewers win for the NBC morning show, excluding Olympics, since the week of June 18, 2012. Today took three days in total viewers, including Tuesday’s coverage of breaking news out of Brussels. That day, Today tallied a nearly 700K total viewer lead over closest rival GMA, which NBC says was its largest non-Olympic single-day total viewer advantage over ABC’s program since March of ’12.

Today’s news-demo first-place finish was its 13th consecutive, and 29th of the past 30 weeks.
