Investigation Discovery is jumping into the OJ fray with a new true-crime docu-series it has unveiled just ahead of the network’s upfront presentation in New York. The network said today it is kicking off production on Hard Evidence: OJ Is Innocent, a six-episode series executive produced and narrated by Martin Sheen which purports to present a new theory and never-before-seen evidence to reveal a possible new suspect. An early 2017 air date is being targeted.

The news comes amid a slew of OJ-related programming including FX’s Ryan Murphy series America Crime Story: The People vs O.J. Simpson and others that come 21 years after Simpson was acquitted of double murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

“The series intends to explore three questions,” said Sheen in the network’s announcement. “What if there were enough evidence that proved O.J. Simpson did not murder his ex-wife Nicole or Ron Goldman? What if the real killer were still at large? And finally, what if a grand jury convened to reconsider the case based on new evidence?”

The docu-series will focus on Dallas-based private investigator William C. Dear, who has gathered undisputed facts and critical new evidence to build a new theory that Simpson is innocent. He teams with former LAPD forensic psychologist Kris Mohandie and Rhode Island police Sgt. Derrick Levasseur to re-examine the case from beginning to end, revealing compelling new information that points the finger directly at a new suspect.

The series is from Objective Media Group America/All3Media America, with Jimmy Fox, Greg Lipstone, Layla Smith, Sheen and Dear serving as executive producers.
