‘Snowden’s Oliver Stone Will Receive Screenwriters Award At 2016 Nantucket Film Festival

Oliver Stone, who co-wrote and directed the upcoming Snowden, will receive the 2016 Screenwriters Tribute Award at the 21st Nantucket Film Festival on June 25. The fest’s top prize, it recognizes outstanding screenwriters in the entertainment industry. Previous winners include Aaron Sorkin, David O. Russell, Judd Apatow, Nancy Meyers and Barry Levinson.

Seth Meyers, host of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, will emcee the event. Meyers was head writer for Saturday Night Live and also anchored its news parody segment “Weekend Update.”

Stone has written and directed 20-plus feature films including Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Natural Born Killers, JFK and Wall Street. He won Best Director Academy Awards forPlatoon in 1986 and for Born on the Fourth of July in 1989 and the Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Midnight Express in 1979.

Stone has also written screenplays for Scarface and Conan the Barbarian. Snowden stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Scott Eastwood, and Melissa Leo. The NFF runs June 22-27.
