Roland Emmerich’s Centropolis Elevates Marco Shepherd to Head Production & Development

EXCLUSIVE: Centropolis Entertainment principals Roland and Ute Emmerich have elevated Marco Shepherd to a new post, Head of Production and Development. Shepherd, who started at the production company in 2005, takes the job at a time when Centropolis has a lot percolating. “We are excited to have Marco in this new position of Head of Production and Development,” the Emmerich siblings said in a statement. “His hard work, dedication and enthusiasm for Centropolis over the last 11 years has made him an irreplaceable part of our team.”

Shepherd oversees development and production for all of Centropolis’ film and TV projects, as well as licensing for consumer products. Among them is Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to the Emmerich-directed global alien-invasion hit (Shepherd is co-producer on the sequel); an untitled action thriller set on a diving ship in the Arctic scripted by Nicolas Wright and James A. Woods that Shepherd, who brought the project to the company, is producing; and Maya Lord, a feature film based on the historical novel by John Coe Robbins telling the fact-based story of Gonzalo Guerrero, a Spaniard whose shipwreck in 1511 led to adventures with the Mayan people in ancient Mexico. Emmerich is set to direct that film. They also are rebooting the 1994 sci-fi hit Stargate.

Shepherd will continue on an untitled project he recently set up at Columbia Pictures. He is repped by attorney Ben Reder.
