‘The Talk’ Unveils Daytime Emmy Awards Noms On Thursday

CBS’ daytime program The Talk will announce noms for the Daytime Emmy Awards at 2 PM ET on Thursday. It’s the second year in a row the CBS talker has had the exclusive on the noms. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences then will post the full nominations list online immediately following the live announcement at http://www.emmyonline.org/daytime.

Again this year, after the ceremony on Sunday, May 1, The Talk will host its “after party” the following day; guests will be announced that Monday morning, May 2.

Last year, the noms announcement was repeated at 8 PM and 11 PM that day on Pop network, on which CBS partnered with Lionsgate. Pop also aired the Daytime Emmy Awards live last year. The plan was part of a push to exhume the Daytime Emmy Awards broadcast after NATAS announced the 24-year-old franchise was returning to TV, via a multi-year deal with Pop (formerly TVGN and TV Guide Network).

After decades as a staple on broadcast TV, the Daytime Emmy Awards fell into a ratings slump – coinciding with the end of Susan Lucci’s non-winning streak – and migrated to the CW, followed by two consecutive off-brand airings on HLN, then dropped off TV completely last year, when it was distributed online only. Last year’s awards ceremony logged nearly 900,000 viewers on Pop that night in Live+Same Day. While a small number for the trophy ceremony that clocked 14 million to 22 million viewers back in the 1990s, and 5.5 million as recently as 2011, it was the most-watched live event on Pop in eight years, dating back to when the network premiered Live on the Red Carpet With Joan And Melissa at the Academy Awards.
