A24 Serves Up New ‘Lobster’ Release Date & Trailer

The Lobster will now be served in domestic theaters beginning May 13. A24 has just set the new date after taking over distribution from the embattled Alchemy which had previously planned a March 11 debut. To accompany the release news, A24 has also drawn a new trailer for the Cannes Jury Prize winner (see above).

The pic that’s directed and co-written by Yorgos Lanthimos, stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C Reilly, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Olivia Colman. It’s an absurdist, dystopian love story set in a world where single people are arrested and obliged to find a mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into The Woods.

Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou won the European Film Award for Best Screenplay in December and Colman the British Independent Film Award as Best Supporting Actress the same month. The Lobster also had a Best British Film BAFTA nomination in February.
