Newly minted Oscar winner Charles Randolph (The Big Short) has signed a deal with Amazon Studios to develop an hour-long present-day civil war drama series for the streaming service. The untitled project is described as a multifaceted, realistic look at what it would take to create a present-day civil war in the U.S.
Randolph is coming off a best adapted screenplay Oscar win with co-writer Adam McKay for the Wall Street comedy-drama The Big Short. The film was nominated for five other Oscars, including best film, best director for McKay and supporting actor for Christian Bale. Randolph’s other screenwriting credits include Love & Other Drugs and The Life Of David Gale.
Randolph has developed for TV before, landing four pilot orders — two at HBO and two at ABC. He is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
