Wednesday’s 10 PM unveiling of the pre-Civil War-era drama drew 2.3 million total viewers, vs Live + Same Day’s 1.4M, and 985,000 adults 25-54, vs L+SD’s 585,000 – boosts of 60% and 65%, respectively.
Add in three encores that night, and the opening of the series about Georgia plantation slaves who plot a 600-mile escape to freedom amassed 3.5 million total viewers and 1.5M adults 25-54 that opening night – the highest rated original scripted program in the network’s history.
Last week, Underground set a record as WGN’s highest performing original series ever in its launch last night. The 10 PM airing drew 1.4M total viewers to rank No. 5 among all scripted series premieres on cable this broadcast TV season. The premiere’s 585K adults 25-54 ranks No. 7 in the TV season that started last September.
