‘American Idol’ & ‘Scandal’ Ratings Steady As Donald Trump & GOP Battle Again On Cable, ‘Life In Pieces’ Rises

With Donald Trump and another GOP debate on CNN last night, the Big 4 saw some dips with American Idol (1.8/6), The Big Bang Theory (3.5/13) and Scandal (1.6/5) down 10%, 8% and 6%, respectively, among adults 18-49 from their last showings. The top-rated and most-watched show of the night, the CBS’ Big Bang (14.49 million) actually aired just before the 8:30 PM ET Republican cable news dust-up. While there were college basketball pre-emptions in some markets on CBS and the CW, the former’s 8:30 PM Life In Pieces (2.1/7) actually grew 17% from last week in the demo.

On an otherwise steady Thursday, CBS won the night with a 1.9/6 rating and 8.23 million viewers. The net’s Mom (1.8/6) bopped up 6% in the demo over its March 3 show, while 2 Broke Girls (1.7/6) and Elementary (1.1/4) were even with last week. The CW saw DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow (0.7/2) head to the 1950s and see a 22% demo drop from last week. That’s a low for the WBTV series in early numbers. Lead-out The 100 (0.4/1) felt the pain too, with a 20% fall.

With Scandal back, and hitting a low in early numbers, ABC’s TGIT lineup saw Grey’s Anatomy (2.1/7) dip 5% and a very dramatic How To Get Away With Murder (1.4/5) remain even with its March 3 show. NBC’s You, Me And The Apocalypse (0.6/2) was up a tenth from last week while Shades Of Blue (1.0/4) was even with its March 3 show.

HTGAWM, Jennifer Lopez’s Shades and Elementary all have seen big DVR playback lifts from last week.
