Rick Eid is joining Dick Wolf’s veteran NBC crime drama Law & Order: SVU as executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming 18th season. He will succeed Warren Leight, who a year ago inked an overall deal with Sony TV but stayed on as SVU showrunner for its current 17th season. For Eid, the SVU gig will fall under a two-year overall deal he has signed with Universal TV, the studio behind the Law & Order franchise.

This marks Eid’s return to the Dick Wolf camp, having previously served as co-executive producer on the mothership Law & Order series and co-created Conviction for NBC. Eid recently served as executive producer on CBS’ Hostages and showrunner on TNT’s Dark Blue.

“I’m extremely pleased that Rick had decided to rejoin the family and hope that he will be here for years to come,” said Wolf, the Law & Order: SVU creator and executive producer.

Law & Order: SVU recently received an early renewal for next fall as part of a new mega-deal Wolf signed with NBCUniversal. Also picked up for next season are his NBC Chicago dramas Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med.

Eid is repped by WME.
