Fox Bolsters Film Book Scouting Operations By Hiring John McLay

EXCLUSIVE: Twentieth Century Fox has brought aboard veteran international literary scout, John McLay, to bolster its book scouting ranks. McLay — who’ll report to Fox Senior Literary Consultant Drew Reed — will serve exclusively as the studio’s Young Adult and Children’s Literary Scout. The London-based McLay has worked as an international literary scout for children’s book publishers including Gallimard Jeunesse in France, Ravensburger Buchverlag in Germany and Rizzoli in Italy. He is the founder of the Bath Children’s Literature Festival, which he directs every year with his lit agent wife, Gill McLay. He also is the author of a number of children’s books, including Dragon’s Dentist and The Worst Wizard for Hachette UK. McLay lectures on the subject of Children’s Publishing as part of the Masters in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. The addition of McLay to Fox’s ranks should help to continue its successful run of films based on young adult fiction, including the worldwide hit The Fault in Our Stars from Fox 2000, and The Maze Runner series from 20th Century Fox.
