Warner Bros. Shifts Release Dates For ‘The Accountant’, ‘Going In Style’ & ‘The House’

Warner Bros. has announced three release date changes. Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant starring Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick will the-accountant-600x315play a week later moving from Oct. 7 to Oct. 14. The previous weekend was a cutthroat one for serious adult fare with Universal/DreamWorks’ feature bestseller adaptation The Girl on the Train in play. Moving to the following weekend gives The Accountant more breathing room and there’s less intense competition for adults with Focus Features’ drama fantasy A Monster Calls, Sony/Screen Gems’ genre sequel Underworld 5 and Uni’s Kevin Hart: What Now? in the mix. The Accountant follows a forensic accountant who un-cooks the books for illicit clients.

New Line and Village Roadshow’s Going In Style directed by Zach Braff is going from May 6 going in styleof this year to April 7, 2017. Pic is Braff’s redo of the 1979 Martin Brest heist comedy that starred Art Carney, George Burns and Lee Strasberg. Word is the film, which stars Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Christopher Lloyd and Joey King, is funny and plays broad. By moving Going in Style to the weekend before Easter, it takes it out of a frame where Disney/Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is going to take the oxygen out of the market anyway.

New Line and Village Roadshow are also co-producing the Will Ferrell-Amy Poehler comedy The House which is moving from June 2, 2017 to the Independence day frame of June 30, four weekends later. There The House will compete against Universal/Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 3 and Sony’s Uncharted. In recent years, audiences have come to expect bawdy comedies around the July 4th frame, read Ted 1 & Ted 2, The Heat and Tammy. The House follows a dad who convinces his friends to start a casino in his basement after he and his wife have wasted their kid’s college fund.
