Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley) has joined the cast of Patriots Day, the CBS Films and Lionsgate pic that chronicles the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Yang will play Dun Meng, a sweet and likable Chinese national who is tech savvy — from social media to writing computer code — and has a direct and frightening encounter with the Tsarnaev brothers. Mark Wahlberg and J.K. Simmons star in the pic from director Peter Berg and writer Matt Charman. Wahlberg is producing along with Scott Stuber, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky. Yang is a series regular on HBO’s Emmy-nominated comedy Silicon Valley and has guested on series including Criminal Minds, New Girl and Battle Creek. He is repped by Don Buchwald & Associates, Principato Young Entertainment and Cohen & Gardner.

Sally Kirkland has booked a role in The Most Hated Woman in America, Netflix’s drama feature starring Melissa Leo and Peter Fonda. Oscar winner Leo plays Madalyn O’Hair, an atheist who got the Supreme Court to overturn prayer in public schools in the landmark Murray v. Curlett ruling. Kirkland will play Lena Christina, Madalyn’s working-class mother. Filming began this week on the pic from director Tommy O’Haver, who co-wrote the script with Irene Turner. Kirkland’s scores of film and TV span six decades, including a Best Actress Oscar nom and Globe win for 1987’s Anna. She is repped by Greene &  Associates Talent Agency, McCraffrey Talent Management and Bridge and Tunnel Communications.
