James Bobin In Early Talks To Direct ’23 Jump Street’ & ‘Men In Black’ Crossover
A possible crossover between the 21 Jump Street and Men In Black franchises first revealed as a result of the 2014 Sony hack is apparently still in motion with Flight of the Conchords and The Muppets director James Bobin in very early talks to direct, Deadline has confirmed. 21 & 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are unable to direct the third outing of the action comedy series based on the 1980s Fox TV series due to taking on Star Wars duties with the upcoming Han Solo stand alone movie.
The film hasn’t been officially greenlit but if it goes forward the studio is looking to start production in early summer. Jump Street stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will produce and return as detectives Jenko and Schmidt. They’d be paired up with Men In Black‘s Agents Jay and Kay, though these roles will be recast as Sony has previously said any future Men in Black films will be reboots. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald of Parkes + MacDonald are also producing.
The Men in Black crossover wasn’t, by the way, one of the parody sequel ideas teased during the end of 22 Jump Street, which included medical school, culinary school, seminary, and the astronaut program.
Variety first reported on this story.
