Film Movement

New York-based distributor Film Movement has snapped up North American rights to French filmmaker Clément Cogitore’s feature directorial Neither Heaven Nor Earth, formerly known as The Wakhan Front. The France-Belgium production was nominated for a César in the Best First Film category, and it played Cannes Critics’ Week last year. The pic will make its U.S. premiere in New York on March 19 and will be released later this year followed by a digital and home video release. Film Movement president Michael E. Rosenberg finalized the deal with Nicolas Eschbach, co-founder of Indie Sales.

The film is set in 2014 Afghanistan. As the withdrawal of troops approaches, Capt. Antarès Bonassieu (Jérémie Renier) and his squad have been assigned a surveillance mission in a remote valley of Wakhan, on the border of Pakistan. Despite Antarès and his men’s determination, control of the secluded valley will slowly fall out of their hands. One dark night, soldiers begin to mysteriously disappear in the valley.
