‘The Voice’ Tops Super Tuesday Ratings, ‘Agent Carter’ Finale Falls From 2015

Presidential politics played a closing role in last night’s primetime with ABC, NBC and CBS all going to Super Tuesday coverage in the 10 PM ET slot as states across the nation voted for Hillary Clinton v. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump v. those other guys. With a lead-in from the second night of Season 10 of The Voice (3.0/10) the big winner was NBC’s Super Tuesday (1.5/2) coverage over competitors CBS News: Campaign 2016 (0.8/6) and ABC’s Super Tuesday: Your Voice/Your Vote (0.6/2). Those numbers could change in later adjustments but NBC looks primed to maintain its lead.

The 2-hour Mark Burnett produced singing competition was the top rated show of the night but, with an audience of 12.36 million, came second vieweshipwise to the 15.18 million watching CBS’ NCIS (2.0/7). Matched against the February 24, 2015 second night of its eighth season, last night’s The Voice was down 23% among adults 18-49. Compared to the September 22, 2015 second night of its ninth season, last night’s show dropped 14% in the key demo. The show declined 12% from Monday’s Season 10 debut but overall won Tuesday solidly in the demo with a 2.5/8, just behind CBS in total viewers with 10.15 million to the House of Moonves’ audience of 10.56 million.

With cable news all Super Tuesday all night, CBS’ NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans (1.6/5) also took a whack now up against The Voice with the former stumbling 17% and the latter down 11%.

As some campaigns for the White House looked near an end after last night’s primary results, ABC also brought The Muppets (0.9/3) and Marvel’s Agent Carter (0.7/2) to their Season 1 and Season 2 conclusions respectively. Both the freshman Kermit and gang show and the now 1940’s Hollywood set MAC have struggled in the ratings this season but the Jim Henson created puppets went out on top with a 13% rise and 4-week high in the key demo.

For the Hayley Atwell played Carter, last night was even with last week – though that 2-hour February 23 show had been adjusted up a tenth in later numbers so we could see a similar uptick today. Compared to its Season 1 finale of February 24 last year, last night’s Agent Carter fell 46% among the 18-49s. With Atwell recently cast in ABC’s Conviction pilot, no word yet if there will be a Season 3 of Marvel’s Agent Carter.

Fox’s New Girl (1.1/4) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.8/2) were both down a tenth to season lows in early numbers. Grandfathered (0.8/3) and The Grinder (0.6/2) were even with last week. The CW sidestepped last night with a low rated encore of the World Dog Awards (0.2/1).
