‘Frequency’ Casts Anthony Ruivivar; Stephan James Joins ‘Shots Fired’

Anthony Ruivivar (Banshee, American Horror Story) has been cast opposite Riley Smith, Peyton List and Mekhi Phifer in Frequency, the CW’s drama pilot based on Toby Emmerich’s sci-fi thriller. The TV series, written by Supernatural showrunner Jeremy Carver, centers on Raimy (List), a police detective in 2016 who discovers that she is able to speak via a ham radio with her estranged father, Frank Sullivan (Smith),a detective who died in 1996. Ruivivar will play Stan Hope, an NYPD plainclothes detective who is Frank’s handler with the NYPD, who calls the shots on Frank’s day-to-day undercover operation. Ruivivar is repped by Gersh and Silver Lining Entertainment.

Stephan James (Race, Selma) is set for a lead role opposite Sanaa Lathan in Fox event series Shots Fired. From Gina Prince-Bythewood and Brian Grazer, Shots Fired examines the dangerous aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small town in Tennessee. James, who will play Preston, stars as Olympic hero Jesse Owens in feature Race and also appeared in Ava DuVernay’s Selma. His other feature credits include When the Game Stands Tall opposite Jim Caviezel and Michael Chiklis. He’s repped by Innovative Artists and Noble Caplan Abrams.
