‘Dirty Dancing’: Nicole Scherzinger Will Dance With Johnny In ABC Remake

Nicole Scherzinger

Johnny has found his dance partner. Nicole Scherzinger has been cast as Penny, Johnny’s (Cole Prattes) dance partner in ABC/Lionsgate TV’s Dirty Dancing, taking on the role played by Cynthia Rhodes in the original film.

Like the 1987 Patrick Swayze-Jennifer Grey feature, ABC’s three-hour Dirty Dancing movie centers on Baby (Abigail Breslin), an innocent young woman in the early 1960s who vacations with her affluent parents and siblings in the Catskills and falls for Johnny (Prattes), the resort’s charismatic, skilled dance instructor and leader of the working-class entertainment. Penny and Johnny enlist Baby’s help and teach her to dance. Debra Messing also stars as Marjorie.

Grammy-nominated singer/actress/dancer Scherzinger (Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris), is also in talks to reprise her Olivier-nominated role as Grizabella’in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway revival of Cats, slated to open this summer. Prior to her solo career, Scherzinger was the lead singer of the burlesque troupe turned-recording act, the Pussycat Dolls, one of the world’s best-selling girl groups of all time.

Dirty Dancing is produced by Lionsgate Television in association with Allison Shearmur Productions.

Scherzinger is repped by CAA and Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg & Light LLP.
