Sony Is Throwing A ‘Sausage Party’ At SXSW; Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg Toon Will Screen As Work-In-Progress

For a moment, what appeared to be missing from the current South by Southwest Film Festival lineup was the traditional advance screening of a raunchy studio comedy. In the past, SXSW has shown rough cuts of Judd Apatow films in advance, i.e. last year’s Trainwreck, as well as summer comedies like Spy. Well, Sony just filled that missing link in the programming and will be showing a work-in-progress cut of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s adult animated feature Sausage Party. The film opens August 12 and follows a sausage’s quest to discover his existence. Rogen, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Paul Rudd and Nick Kroll lead the voice cast.

At PGA’s Produced By LA 2014, Goldberg said, “A lot of people are like, ‘Do you dudes just get baked on a couch and come up with ideas?’ That one, yes!” Rogen and Goldberg were sitting around with Hill when they cracked the idea. “We worked backwards from the title, ‘We should make a movie about Sausage Party, what would it be?'”, said Goldberg. “Hot Dog Party didn’t sound as good,” quipped Rogen at the PGA event.

Sausage Party is a Special Event, but it’s also part of Convergence and SouthBites, which means it’s open to all badge types. The toon will screen at 9:30 PM Monday, March 14, at the Paramount Theatre.

Rogen is a SXSW vet, having shown up at the Austin event in the past with Neighbors and Observe and Report. Rogen and Goldberg also will present Preacher, their comic book adaptation for AMC, at this year’s event.
