‘NCIS’ Renewed For 2 Seasons As Mark Harmon Inks New Deal With CBS Studios

UPDATED: NCIS star and executive producer Mark Harmon has closed a new two-year deal with CBS TV Studios, the studio behind the hit CBS drama. With Harmon on board, the veteran crime procedural has been renewed for two seasons, matching Harmon’s deal term. The same happened in 2013, when Harmon closed another multi-year pact with the studio, triggering an NCIS renewal.

Since then, Harmon has expanded his NCIS footprint — he also executive produces the NCIS: New Orleans spinoff.

ncis5In its 13th season, NCIS is still a ratings force to be reckoned with, drawing more than 20 million viewers in a fragmented environment where viewership of 10 million viewers is often considered a success. NCIS is averaging 20.47 million viewers this season, up +4% from Season 12 and on pace to finish the season as network television’s #1 drama for the seventh consecutive year. NCIS is older-skewing but still potent in the demos, ranking in the top 10 among adults 25-54 (4.6 rating) and in the top 15 in adults 18-49 (3.1). Also, NCIS is a Top 10 time-shifted program, gaining almost +4 million viewers in Live+7 playback.

“It’s extraordinary that in its 13th season and with over 300 episodes to its credit, NCIS continues to excel at such a high level on a global scale,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. “It is testimony to an amazing cast, led on and off the screen by the exceptional Mark Harmon, for skillfully bringing this universally appealing team of heroes to life; and to Gary Glasberg and his writers for crafting compelling stories that feature NCIS’s signature blend of mystery, quirk, drama and comedy every single week.”

NCIS has been a global hit and a very lucrative asset for CBS sibling CBS Studios. The series, licensed in more than 200 markets, has ranked as the most watched drama series in the works for the past two years.

As is the case with many long-running series, especially procedurals, NCIS will be going through another cast transition next season as Michael Weatherly will be departing this spring. That’s why locking in Harmon, the series’ very popular leading man, has been key to the show’s future.
