CBS Nabs 1st Friday Demo Win As ‘Shark Tank’ Ratings Slip, ‘TVD’-‘Originals’ Crossover Gets Viewership Uptick

the CW

ABC’s Shark Tank slipped for a second consecutive week to a Friday season low of a 1.2 in adults 18-49 (Live+same day) last night. (It may be adjusted up a tenth in the finals like it was last week.) The reality veteran still finished as the top program of the night in the demo but tied with two other shows, CBS’ Blue Bloods (down a tenth from last week) and NBC’s two-hour Dateline, which surged 0.4 (50%) vs. last Friday’s hourlong edition and topped rival 20/20 (0.7), which dived -0.6 (-46%) from last week’s highly rated interview with the mother of one of the Columbine shooters.

With Shark Tank and 20/20 down, CBS logged its first outright Friday win in adults 18-49 this season (1.1 vs. 1.0 for ABC). It had previously tied long-time Friday demo leader ABC for the top spot once in January. CBS also was once again the most watched network of the night (8.1 million).

There were no major ratings fireworks for the crossover between new Friday companions The Vampire Diaries (0.5, up 0.1 from last week) and The Originals (0.4, even). But they both rose in total viewers (+15% for TVD, +21% for The Originals) and each ticked up a tenth in their core adults 18-34 demo.

Elsewhere, Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (0.8 in 18-49) was even with its fast national last week, up a tenth from the final, CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 (1.1) and The Amazing Race (1.1) both were even while Fox’s Second Chance (0.5) and ABC’s Last Man Standing (1.1) and Dr. Ken (1.0) were all off by a tenth, with Second Chance tying a low.
