TV POTUS Duo Tony Goldwyn & Dennis Haysbert Join ‘Reagan’ Live Reading

EXCLUSIVE: When Lena Dunham joined the cast of the live reading of The Black List script Reagan, we joked that fictional President portrayer Martin Sheen should get on board. Well, looks like that West Wing POTUS isn’t joining the March 5 performance of the Mike Rosolio written project but two other small screen Commander-in-Chiefs are. Scandal’s Tony Goldwyn and 24 alum Dennis Haysbert will both be on stage next month at the Montalban Theater in Hollywood, I’ve learned.

Goldwyn hung out with real life 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue contender Hillary Clinton last night on the set of the Shonda Rhimes produced DC-set drama, so he is in even more of an Oval Office POV than usual. However, despite depicting a Republican from California on the ABC show, the man who plays President Fitzgerald Grant will not be playing President Ronald Reagan in the satire. Instead, Goldwyn will be portraying Don Regan, who was the 40th President’s Secretary of the Treasury and later White House Chief of Staff.

REAGAN FINAL POSTERjpegBTW – here’s an exclusive look at the poster for the show.

Having played President David Palmer on the early seasons of 24, Haysbert will portray Jack Corden in Reagan. His character is the father of Frank Corden, the ambitious intern played by John Cho. The younger Corden is tasked with getting a recently re-elected and seemingly befuddled Reagan to play an actor playing the President.

A familiar face on TV for his Allstate Insurance ads, Haysbert returns to drama in Syfy’s recently picked up 13-episode futuristic thriller IncorporatedThe series from Matt Damon, Ben Affleck & Jennifer Todd’s Pearl Street Films, CBS Television Studios and Universal Cable Prods is set to debut this fall.

Haysbert is repped by Gersh and GS Management while Goldwyn is repped by CAA and Untitled Management.
