IFC Greenlights Dana Gould Horror Comedy & Funny Or Die Adaptation Starring Hank Azaria

IFC today handed eight-episode orders to a pair of scripted comedies: Stan Against Evil, a horror-comedy from creator-writer Dana Gould and 3 Arts Entertainment, and Funny or Die adaptation Brockmire, starring Hank Azaria.

Set to air in the fall, Stan Against Evil follows Stan, a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement. He has trouble relinquishing his authority to tough new sheriff Evie, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right. Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which was built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning. Gould will executive produce and write, with Tom Lassally also serving as executive producer. Radical Media will produce the series, with Frank Scherma and Justin Wilkes executive producing.

Hank Azaria Headshot (2)Based on a Funny Or Die short, Brockmire centers on a famed Major League Baseball announcer (Azaria) who suffers an embarrassing and very public meltdown on the air after discovering his beloved wife’s serial infidelity. A decade later, Jim Brockmire decides to reclaim his career and love life in a small town, calling minor league ball for the Morristown Frackers. Set to premiere early next year, the series is written by Joel Church-Cooper and will be directed by Tim Kirkby. It will be executive produced by Azaria, Church-Cooper, Kirkby and Funny or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell.

“Demons and disgrace are at the forefront of IFC’s new comedy strategy,” IFC President Jennifer Caserta said in announcing the projects. “And there’s no one we’d rather be in bed with – or save small towns with – than Hank and Dana. One of the hallmarks of IFC’s success is the exceptional caliber of creative genius that we get to partner with, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be making these shows.”
