Julie Berman (Chicago Med), who recurred as Leia in Season 1 of Hulu’s comedy series Casual, has been promoted to series regular for the second season, and Katie Aselton (The Gift, The League) has joined the cast in a recurring role.

Written by up-and-coming scribe Zander Lehmann, Casual follows the story of a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother (Tommy Dewey) and his newly divorced sister (Michaela Watkins). Together, they coach each other through the crazy world of dating — online and off — while living under one roof again and raising a teenager (Tara Lynne Barr). Berman’s Leia is Valerie’s (Watkins) attractive and promiscuous assistant. She is breezy, unintentionally vulgar, a poster child for the Adderall generation, but also endearingly sweet and offers Valerie a fresh perspective on what it means to be a sexual women in 2016. Aselton will play Jennifer, a new therapist who takes the vacant office next to Valerie’s. Composed, sophisticated and with a group of long-standing friends, Jennifer has built a satisfying post-divorce life, a life that Valerie is desperate to be a part of.

Aselton, repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Sloane Offer, next will be seen in a recurring arc on HBO’s Togetherness. Upcoming projects also include Lionsgate’s The Sea Of Trees and Warner Bros’ Bastards. Berman recurs on Chicago Med. She’s repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency and LINK Entertainment.

Casual is produced by Lionsgate Television and Right of Way. Lehmann, Jason Reitman, Helen Estabrook, and Liz Tigelaar executive produce.
