WGN America’s ‘Underground’ Set For White House Screening

WGN America’s upcoming series about the underground railroad used by escaping slaves is headed to Washington. The White House will screen Underground on Monday as part of a Black History Month event, and a source tells Deadline that President Obama and the first lady are “very likely” to attend.

Underground castThere will be a panel discussion beforehand with members of the Underground cast and creative team, including executive producer John Legend, creators/EPs Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, executive producer Akiva Goldsman, director/EP Anthony Hemingway and stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Christopher Meloni, Alano Miller, Jessica de Gouw and Amirah Vann. The panel will be livestreamed at WhiteHouse.gov/Live, starting at 5:30 PM ET. Legend, who won a Best Original Song Oscar last year for co-writing “Glory” from Selma, performed during a Los Angeles fundraiser attended by POTUS last week.

Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios’ Underground, which had a premiere screening at Sundance last month, debuts March 9 on WGN America.
