‘Saturday Night Live’ Ratings Slip With Host Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy has emerged as one of the most popular Saturday Night Live hosts in the past few years, earning Emmy nominations for all 3 of her previous stints on the show from 2011-2014. McCarthy’s previous SNL show, which she hosted in February 2014 (5.4 in overnight household rating, 2.9 in adults 18-49) continues to be a high mark that even Donald Trump’s hosting gig could not match in the demo. (McCarthy’s 2014 show also marked the final episode of Seth Meyers as a regular.)

So it is somewhat surprising that, with McCarthy as host and headline-making Kanye West — who has gotten involved in a slew of controversies over the past week — as musical guest, SNL last night drew an OK-but-not-great 4.4 in the metered markets households and a 2.3 in 18-49. That was down from last week’s show hosted by Larry David, which posted a 5.1 in households and a 2.4 in 18-49.
