Paramount Brings Vin Diesel And ‘xXx 3: The Return Of Xander Cage’ Franchise Into Fold

Paramount has signed on to distribute worldwide xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage, reviving the franchise Vin Diesel started and rejoins as an extreme sports athlete-turned-action hero. Revolution Studios, Roth Kirschenbaum Films and Diesel’s One Race Films will produce. D.J. Caruso directs a film that shoots in Toronto and the Dominican Republic.

London Has Fallen‘s Chad St. John wrote it and F. Scott Frazier (Collide) is revising. Cage comes out of exile and takes on a deadly alpha warrior Xiang in pursuit of an unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Diesel starred in the first film in 2002, then sat out the sequel, which starred Ice Cube. Sony released both films. It’s unclear whether Cube will reprise; it’s got to be a thought since he’s got more franchises than McDonald’s.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Vin, Samantha, Joe, Kirsch and Paramount to bring this fan-favorite franchise back to the screen,” said Revolution CEO Vince Totino, who is executive producing with COO Scott Hemming.

“It’s great to be reteaming with Vin and Revolution on a long-anticipated sequel to this highly entertaining film,” said producer Joe Roth, who recently partnered with Jeffrey Kirschenbaum in their new venture.
