Ryan Coogler Named First Warner Bros Creative Talent Ambassador

Creed helmer and co-writer Ryan Coogler has been appointed as the first Warner Bros Creative Talent Ambassador. The studio’s program supports the next generation of UK talent, with scholarships that provide work placements, mentoring, apprenticeships and training courses.

Coogler himself was a Time Warner Foundation Fellow, supported early in his career by the foundation in partnership with Sundance Institute. That enabled him to develop his first feature, Fruitvale Station which put him on the map as a formidable new voice, and won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. His 2015 release, Creed, expands the Rocky saga and scored a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for Sylvester Stallone. It’s grossed over $167M to date worldwide.

Coogler said, “Having experienced firsthand the support and impact of programs similar to Warner Bros Creative Talent, it is fantastic to know that passionate young people of all backgrounds are being given the chance to follow their dreams here in the UK. This can be a tough industry and so we need to do what we can to bring talented young people into it.”

Creative Talent is in its third season, and gives young people of all backgrounds invaluable industry experience and insight across WB’s UK film, TV, video games and theater operations. A series of special events and master classes delivered by industry experts is an integral part of the scheme.

Warner UK, Ireland and Spain President and Managing Director Josh Berger, calls Coogler “the perfect example of the effect that a program like this can have on one’s life and career. We’re already seeing our talented young people taking strides into the industry, just a couple of years into the program, and I can’t wait to see what Season Three will go on to achieve.”

Among the offerings from Creative Talent this year are scholarships at some of Britain’s most respected higher education institutions; apprenticeships at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden and Warner Bros Television Production UK; trainee positions on every Warner film production in the UK; training course places for young people at theater company Chickenshed; work experience places for students at a school local to Warner’s London HQ; and work placements on the West End musical, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.
