Maybe Adult Swim should share custody of Full Frontal?

Samantha Bee’s new TBS late-night show clocked 2.2 million viewers in its 10 PM ET launch last night. Of that crowd, 1.2M fell into the 18-49 demographic. Turner simulcast the unveiling on Adult Swim, TNT and truTV.

That’s a strong start for a new late-night comedy franchise launched in an unusual late-night 10:30 PM time slot. Last September, when Trevor Noah took over for Jon Stewart as host of the very well-established The Daily Show, he averaged 3.5 million viewers, but his unveiling had been launched across 12 Viacom networks. Jon Stewart’s final night hosting the show, in August, clocked 3.5M viewers, which had been his secon- largest ever same-night audience.

Bee’s hosting debut was simulcast as well, but across four networks. Of her 2.2M viewers of all ages, 629K watched on the show’s home network, TBS. Another 402K watched on TNT, and 142K on truTV. And nearly 1M watched on Adult Swim (986K to be exact, according to Nielsen stats for the timeslot).

Similar story in the demo. Full Frontal averaged 360K on TBS, 222K on TNT, 66K on truTV, and its biggest crowd – 569K –  on Adult Swim.

Kicking off her show, the long-time The Daily Show correspondent said how happy she was to have her own late-night program, “and during an election year, thank you sweet baby Jesus” after months “sitting here with no show, yelling at the wall, while the most deranged electoral shit show in a generation passed me by.”

Last month, appearing at TCA, Bee explained her highly anticipated new TBS late-night show will “take stories we don’t think receive enough attention and stab them with the hot poker of comedy.”
