‘The Lobster’ Trailer: Colin Farrell & Rachel Weisz In Offbeat Near-Future Love Story
Nothing says “modern love” quite like awkward dancing, trapping rabbits, target practice and a Heimlich maneuver.
Alchemy netted U.S. rights to Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster last year in Cannes, where the film won the Jury Prize. It’s now readying a March 11 release and has dropped the first domestic trailer. Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Olivia Colman star in the love story that’s set in the near future. There, single people, according to the rules of The City, are arrested and sent to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into The Woods.
Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou won the European Film Award for Best Screenplay in December and Colman the British Independent Film Award as Best Supporting Actress the same month. The Lobster is next up for a Best British Film BAFTA on Sunday. Check out the trailer above, and tell us what you think.
