EXCLUSIVE: Romantic indie drama Echo Park had its world premiere at the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival, and now Ava Duvernay’s Array has acquired worldwide rights to the pic. This will be the 11th theatrical release for the film collective, which the Selma director founded in 2010. “We’re excited to introduce Amanda Marsalis and her gem Echo Park produced by Anthony Okungbowa to audiences hungry for the work of bold, women directors and filmmakers of color,” Array executive director Tilane Jones said today.

Directed by celebrity photographer-turned-filmmaker Marsalis, Echo Park focuses on a brewing romance of opposites in the increasingly gentrified L.A. neighborhood of its title. The self-described lyrical romantic drama stars The Good Wife‘s Mamie Gummer as Sophie, a women who moves from a life of security in Beverly Hills to the still rougher area of L.A. On the east side of town, she meets Brit expate Alex, portrayed by The Ellen DeGeneres Show DJ Okungbowa, who is also looking for a reset in his life. With the duo wandering around the neighborhood, Echo Park itself becomes a character in many ways in Echo Park.

The deal was negotiated by Gordon Bobb of Del, Shaw on behalf of Array.
