George Miller Named Jury President Of Cannes Film Festival 2016

Hot off a very successful year for the Mad Max: Fury Road director, George Miller has been named the president of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival jury, the organization announced tonight.

Along with other duties during the film festival, the screenwriter and producer will, along with the jury, award the Palme d’Or at the end of the festival, which runs May 11-22.

“What an unmitigated delight! To be there in the middle of this storied festival at the unveiling of cinematic treasures from all over the planet,” Miller said in a statement released as part of the announcement. “To spend time in passionate discourse with fellow members of the jury. Such an honor. I’ll be there with bells on!”

Mad Max: Fury Road made a huge splash at Cannes 2015. While it was shown out of competition, it was an easy favorite among attendees and has gone on to worldwide acclaim and strong ticket sales. The film has received 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.
