Bloom & Black Bear Pictures Board George Clooney’s ‘Suburbicon’

Alex Walton’s Bloom has come on board to handle international sales on George Clooney’s Suburbicon, which Black Bear Pictures will fully finance. Sales will begin at the Berlin Film Festival later this month based on a script written by Joel and Ethan Coen and starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. Joel Silver will produce for Silver Pictures alongside Clooney and Grant Heslov (Argo) under their Smokehouse Pictures label, and Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear Pictures.

Deadline first revealed in late October that Clooney was putting this together, and that it was building steam quickly. It’s a noir drama in the vein of the Coens’ breakout film Blood Simple, with this one being a small crime drama set in the 1950s. Robert Elswit will be the DP. In the quiet family town of Suburbicon, the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people. When a home invasion turns deadly, a picture-perfect family turns to blackmail, revenge, and betrayal.

The Coens wrote and directed Hail, Caesar!, which will open the Berlin fest on February 11. That star-studded cast includes Clooney as well as Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes and Jonah Hill. Brit production powerhouse Working Title produced.

Bloom and Silver Pictures are currently in postproduction on Shane Black’s detective thriller The Nice Guys starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling for Warner Bros.
